Athena is a magazine for Kiwi and Aussie girls who are out there doing things - sport, art, community, business, weird hobbies, all of it. Every issue we feature a Real Girl Story.

We're not looking for influencers or overachievers. We're looking for normal girls doing something genuinely interesting - the kind of story that makes another girl think I could do that too.

Because you're under 18 we need a parent or guardian's details before we can feature your work.We'll send a consent form to this email before anything is published. Nothing goes to print without their sign-off.

REAL GIRL STORY QUESTIONS

  1. Tell us your name, age and location (town is fine)

  2. What's the thing you do that we're going to write about? Describe it like you're telling a friend.

  3. How did you get into it? What started it?

  4. What does a normal week of doing this thing actually look like?

  5. What's the hardest part? What have you had to figure out?

  6. What do you love most about it?

  7. Where do you usually do this — at home, outside, at a club? And is there anything we should know about what it looks like or what gear or materials are involved?

  8. What would you tell another girl who wanted to try something like this?

  9. What's your big sister advice — the reminder you'd give to other girls out there? (About life in general, not specific to your shared story)

Don’t forget some photos!

Please share 3–4 photos. Phone photos are totally fine — real and natural is what we're after.

Try to include:

Action shot — you doing your thing, mid-process

Natural portrait — just you, relaxed, somewhere that feels like you

Detail shot — a close-up of your materials, setup, or finished result

Bonus shot (optional) — anything else that helps tell your story

Keep them clear and well-lit where you can, and make sure anyone else in the photos is happy to be included. Max 10MB per image.We may lightly crop or colour-adjust photos for layout. You'll always see and approve the final version before anything is published.
